Information and Links About Learning During Shutdown
Hello! I hope I am finding everyone doing well. I want to thank you for hanging in there with us in this time of separation. I hope my kiddos are doing well also. Please tell them I miss them dearly!!!
I am sending you this letter, and please forgive me for the length, but it is full of information. I hope it will be easy to understand. If you have any questions you may send me a text through School Status or an email will work as well.
First- you were given a packet of work last Wednesday, March 18, 2020. That should have enough work for the kids to do for two weeks, ending on March 27, 2020. We are currently working on a 2nd packet of work this coming week. The 2nd packet of work will be available to pick up on April 1, 2020 from 11:00-1:00. As you are working through the packets and you have any questions, I am a text or email away. My available times will be Monday: 8:00am-11:30am, Tuesday – Thursday 8:00am 4:00pm. If you need anything at any other time just send me a message on School Status and I will get to you as soon as I can. I am not going anywhere, because of the shelter in place order, so most likely I will answer.
Next- I have created a Facebook Private Group: Mrs. Smith’s First Grade class- LVE. It is available to our parents, students, and our staff. We felt this would be a fun and safe way to stay in touch with each other and interact with each other as well. I plan to post videos and lesson reviews on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Please help your child take photos or videos of them accomplishing their lessons or dressing up or doing other fun activities. I also will be posting updates, extra fun activities, and little quotes throughout the week as well. These extra activities are for fun for you and your child and they are not requirements. Make sure they are getting in at least 1 session of math and reading in success maker every day. It would also be great for them to complete a Reflex Math session. As a final note on the internet, I am working on setting up a way for us to meet face to face on a website that is not Facebook. Once I have it set up, I will let you know.
Then- I have assigned each student some online assignments in math, reading, science, and social studies workbooks that can be found online through class link on the Pearson Tab. They will login as if they were going to get on Success Maker, just clicking the Realize tab instead. Those assignments have dates of when they begin and end. They started March 16 and end April 10. I made them through the 10th just in case, as of right now, we should go back April 6. You will be informed if that changes.
Finally- Again, thank you so much for hanging in there with us. Each teacher is working very hard to make things work so that our students are not falling behind. There are so many online websites that are available to use that it is very hard in picking some for you all. We do not want to overwhelm you or your children. We are missing them tremendously and want what is best for them.
Through Class Link-
Pearson App- you get on Success Maker Math and Reading and Realize Classroom Work Assignments for reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Reflex Math App- you have a login for that

Message to Parents and Students
Message to Parents and Students
I hope all is going well during this time of shutdown due to the corona virus outbreak. I know that many people are struggling with the uncertainty of what is happening around us right now. I am still trying to maintain contact with students and support parents with online and other types of learning a few times a week until we get back to normal.
I plan to call each student twice a week to check on them and their learning and to let them know how much I miss them. To aid in communication and learning, I have created a Facebook page titled: Mrs. Smith's First Grade class- LVE. If you need me to send an invite, just message me your Facebook page. Please connect with this private group and allow students to log on and interact. I have posted lots of other information as well as learning.
I also wanted to mention that if you have a child care person who I should contact, other than yourself, please let me know. Many students are staying with grandparents and others during the day. I would like to invite them to join the Facebook page also, so your child could log in and participate when you are not with them.
Last, I wanted to let you know that I have changed the settings on my School Status account to allow parents to return calls to me through the number that comes up when I contact you. If you ever have any questions, please let me know.
Thinking of you during this difficult time,
Mrs. Sherry Smith
